Egypt becomes first country to produce 91% of its medicines locally
Egypt has become the only country in the world to achieve 91 percent local production of medicines used in its domestic market, according to Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority. This is reported by Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.
Speaking at a press conference, Al-Ghamrawy explained that the Drug Authority has invested considerable effort in increasing local medicine production. This achievement not only minimizes the need for foreign imports but also supports Egypt’s national security by ensuring a stable and self-sufficient supply of essential medicines.
Beyond meeting domestic demand, the Authority is also focused on expanding Egypt’s pharmaceutical exports. Al-Ghamrawy emphasized that Egypt currently accounts for 27 percent of the entire African pharmaceutical market, making it one of the continent’s largest players in the sector.
