McDonald's Egypt renovated 90% of nurseries in Ezbet Khairallah & 2 schools in 3 years
Through its commitment to educational reform, McDonald's Egypt launched its educational development in unplanned communities initiative, starting with Ezbet Khairallah in 2009. Through this initiative it has successfully renovated and developed 22 nurseries, which constitute approximately 90% of all nurseries in Ezbet Khairallah, the biggest unplanned community in Egypt that houses more than 650,000 people. Alaa Fathy, McDonald's Egypt General Manager said, "McDonald's Egypt is strongly dedicated to enhancing the educational environment to ensure sound development for children from deprived areas that are in dire need of support. Since 2009 we've been committed to delivering safe, fun and engaging educational premises as well as extending a helping hand to mothers by providing training courses to compliment the education process in school."
Additionally, McDonald's Egypt recently began developing and renovating two primary schools, with a focus on primary one and two. Each year, McDonald's Egypt will focus on the development of two primary classes, to eventually take on secondary and high school levels as well.
In collaboration with Peace & Plenty Association, a prominent Egyptian NGO, McDonald's Egypt has allocated EGP2m so far to renovate the 22 nurseries, provide school supplies, course materials, field trips, training courses for mothers and teachers as well as monthly birthday parties for the children. McDonald's Egypt will continue to fund the initiative as it continues to expand and benefit more children.
Alaa Fathy added, "Educational reform is very critical for sustainable social development, especially during early stages, which set the foundation for the entire education process."
