Egypt has cemented its position as a leading exporter of prepared or preserved frozen vegetables, securing fourth place worldwide in 2024. Figures released show that exports of steamed, boiled, or raw frozen vegetables reached a value of US$74 million, representing 7 per cent of the total global market. This is reported by Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

Data, compiled with the support of the Centre for International Trade, reveals a steady upward trajectory for Egyptian vegetable exports. The sector has experienced consistent growth in recent years, with an annual growth rate of around 5 per cent in both value and quantity between 2020 and 2024. A particular increase of 15 per cent in export value was recorded between 2023 and 2024, highlighting the strong market demand for Egyptian produce.

Russia emerged as the top destination for Egyptian frozen vegetables, importing US$11.6 million worth of produce (16 per cent of total exports), followed by Saudi Arabia (US$6.3 million) and the UAE (US$5.3 million).

Officials have emphasised that continued expansion in this sector strengthens the competitiveness of Egyptian exports and paves the way for access to new markets. This, in turn, contributes to supporting the national economy, boosting food export revenues, and reinforcing Egypt's position as a key international player in the food and agricultural industries.
