Egypt reduces plastic use
A national information campaign against the use of disposable plastic bags has been launched in Egypt. This was reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Egypt's Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said that the initiative aims to transition to a more environmentally friendly economy that takes into account the interests of all people so that reforms do not harm society or vulnerable groups.
According to her, reducing the production of plastic bags will cut the cost of importing raw materials. Fouad also highlighted the serious harm that plastic pollution causes to living organisms in Egypt, especially marine species.
She added that the transition to the use of environmentally friendly bags requires the development of regulatory rules with the participation of the industrial sector. The government, in turn, offers incentives for investment in the production of alternatives to plastic.
Yasser Abdullah, CEO of Egypt's Waste Management Regulatory Authority, noted that the campaign plays an important role in reducing pollution caused by plastic waste by introducing reusable solutions and reducing the need for the production of this synthetic material.
