Egypt, Germany plan Bridge and Tunnel Complex
In a significant move toward localizing strategic industries, Vice Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, held an extensive meeting with representatives from German companies SAMCO and Maurer on Saturday, June 8, 2025. The meeting aimed to establish a roadmap for creating an integrated industrial complex in Egypt dedicated to manufacturing all components needed for bridges and tunnels.
The project aligns with Egypt’s national strategy to localize key industries and transform the country into a regional industrial hub, in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives.
Also present were Dr. Nahed Youssef, Chairperson of the Industrial Development Authority, along with senior officials from the ministries of industry and transport.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed current collaborative projects between Maurer and Egypt’s SAMCO. These projects already involve the domestic manufacture of advanced bridge bearings to global quality standards. Discussions also included plans to expand production capacity, especially considering Egypt's ongoing infrastructure megaprojects, such as the high-speed electric rail, major bridges, and massive tunnels.
