Citrus fruits topped the list of exported fruits last week, with a total of 65,000 tons, followed by strawberries with 18,000 tons, and then various fruits with a total of 3,000 tons.
The number of exported fruit varieties reached 34 types, representing approximately 86,000 tons, according to the Agricultural Quarantine Authority.
Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, explained that the total area of citrus fruit planted in Egypt is estimated at approximately 517,000 acres, with exported quantities exceeding 2.3 million tons, ranking first globally.
He noted that Egyptian agricultural exports currently occupy most global markets and are in increasing demand from all countries due to their quality and good reputation.
Citrus fruits are a popular fruit in Egypt, not only because of their low price, but also because they can stay fresh for a long time without needing to be refrigerated.
They also provide the body with vitamin C, which boosts immunity because they contain important elements such as magnesium, iron, zinc, and calcium, making them a suitable nutritional choice for children who do not like milk. They can be compensated by drinking citrus juices such as orange and lemon.
