Egypt has proposed to construct a mini-dam in South Sudan, in a move that may raise complaints among other Nile River countries, APA learnt Thursday.
Egyptian delegation headed by the Minister of Irrigation, Hossam Mugazi delivered a feasibility report for the construction of the dam on the Jur River in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

South Sudanese Minister of Dams, Electricity and Irrigation, Jemma Nunu Kumba, has welcomed the Egyptian plan, adding that it may provide a good source of water and electricity to the people of South Sudan.

The dam, if constructed, will be a vital source for water and electricity to Wau town she was quoted saying.

Egypt was last week represented at a meeting of Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) countries after five years of boycotting due to a dispute over sharing the waters of the river between upstream and downstream nations.
