Yellow remittances’ from Iraq to Egypt delayed

The ‘yellow remittances’, worth $408 million, should have been cashed before Eid el-Fitr (the Lesser Bairam), at the end of Ramadan, but a dispute over interest due on the money for more than 20 years has caused a delay.

Sources told el-Youm el-Sabea online that the Iraqi government wants to pay the original money without interest, which is unacceptable to the Egyptians waiting for their money.

Minister of Manpower Ahmed el-Boari is planning to visit Iraq after the Eid, for further negotiations.
