Vodafone Qatar picks ex-Egypt unit chief as new CEO

Vodafone Qatar on Saturday announced it had appointed a new CEO to replace Graheme Maher who died last November after a short illness.

Richard Daly, formerly the CEO of Vodafone Egypt and Vodafone Partner Markets, has already taken up his new role, Vodafone said in a statement.

It added that Daly was "a very experienced CEO with over 30 years experience in blue chip companies including 11 years in telecommunications".

Daly said the company priority under his reign would be to provide excellent network quality across Qatar and bring new services to customers.

Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Saud Al-Thani, Vodafone Qatar's chairman, said he was confident that Daly would take the company "to new strengths".

Daly added: "I am delighted to be here in Qatar and thoroughly looking forward to my new life here. Vodafone Qatar has been through an exciting journey since its launch in July 2009.

"I can see that the competition we have bought has already led to lower prices and improved services for the customers in Qatar."

Vodafone Qatar reported a loss of $33.6m in the second quarter, down from $41m in the previous three-month period.
