British Airways is one of the 10 safest commercial airlines, according to a study by the Geneva-based Air Transport Rating Agency. Air France-KLM, Lufthansa, Japan Airlines and six US-based carriers are also in the list. The study took into account 15 criteria, including fleet age, pilot training facilities and the number of accidents over the past 10 years.

Egypt suffers

Sales of the Egyptian pound fell by 49 per cent between June and August compared with the same period last year, according to the Post Office's annual currency report, reflecting Egypt's declining popularity among British holidaymakers. Sales of Mexican and Argentinian currency grew by 144 per cent and 120 per cent respectively.
