Egypt, Sudan to link power grids
Egypt's Ministry of Electricity will soon embark on a project to link its electricity network with that of Sudan, according to Egyptian Minister of Electricity Hassan Younes.
The minister said on Wednesday that the project with Egypt's southern neighbor might start as early as September.
Younes said the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity had finished technical and financial analysis of different bids for the execution of the project with Sudan.
He also disclosed that Egypt is in talks with Saudi Arabian officials on a similar project, even though the project is still awaiting a review from both the Egyptian Electric Holding Company and its Saudi counterpart.
According to the Egyptian Minister, the project will ensure energy exchanges between Egypt and Saudi Arabia during peak times.
