Circle Oil (LON:COP) told investors of its success with the Geyad-5X water injection well, which will support production at the Geyad field in Egypt.

The well is south-west of the Geyad field and down-dip of the Geyad-1X ST discovery well. The Geyad field is part of the NW Gemsa Concession, which also contains the Al Amir field. The total concession area spans 260 square kilometres, and it is around 300 kilometres southeast of Cairo in a partially unexplored area of the Gulf of Suez Basin.

It was drilled to a depth of 7,350 feet. Its primary objective was to appraise the Shagar and Rahmi sandstones of the Kareem Formation in a down-dip location, and to subsequently provide water injection to support oil production from the up-dip Geyad field wells.

Circle confirmed today that the Shagar sands were encountered, with 15 feet of net reservoir and average porosity of 14 per cent. It said that perforations were made between 6,510 and 6,525 feet. Meanwhile the Rahmi sands were also encountered, with 15 feet of net reservoir, average porosity of 13 per cent and perforations made between 6,583 and 6,899 feet.

The company also confirmed that as expected, both sands were found to be water bearing. The well has been completed as an injector.
