Cement maker Titan seals long-term solar PPA in Egypt
Titan Egypt, part of global building materials manufacturer Titan Group, said on Monday it has signed a power off-take deal with SolarizEgypt that will facilitate the construction of an 11.5-MW solar farm in Egypt.
The long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) will enable SolarizEgypt to develop and construct the photovoltaic (PV) farm and supply Beni Suef Cement Company, a subsidiary of Titan Egypt. SolarizEgypt will also take care of the financing, ownership, operation and maintenance of the plant.
The green energy volumes will cover “a significant portion” of Beni Suef Cement’s electricity consumption, supporting its parent’s efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of its industrial operations.
“This agreement serves as a successful model of cooperation between the industrial and clean energy sectors, delivering sustainable economic and environmental value while supporting Egypt’s efforts toward a more sustainable future,” said Mohamed El-Fouly, chief commercial officer at SolarizEgypt.
