Under the agreement, Voltalia will pay USD 53 million (EUR 46.2m), according to a Cabinet statement.

The wind farm is scheduled to begin commercial operations by December 2028. Voltalia will also complete all required procedures and implementation measures to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.

Voltalia established an office in Egypt in 2018, when it announced plans to install 800 MW of renewable energy capacity in the North African country over the following five to eight years.

Wind energy is gaining momentum in Egypt along with solar power as the country aims to significantly expand the share of renewables. In May, Egypt's Tahya Misr Holding Company for Investment and Development and the ministries of electricity and finance signed a protocol to finance about 4.75 GW of wind projects across the Gulf of Suez and Red Sea coast as well as 4 GWh of battery energy storage projects.
