EGYPT: New Automated Export System for Cargo Clearance
Egypt launched a fully automated export clearance system at Ain Sokhna Port on 7 April 2026. The platform, introduced by the Egyptian Customs Authority, centres on a Unified Consignment Reference (UCR) that enables exporters to track shipments seamlessly across all regulatory touchpoints, replacing fragmented, paper‑based procedures.
The system is forecast to reduce average export clearance times from around eight days to 48 hours, with authorities targeting near real‑time processing. Under the new system, export rebates and subsidies which were previously subject to approval cycles of up to six months, will now be processed almost immediately. The new system is accessible from Egypt’s existing Nafeza platform, the country’s national single window for foreign trade.
Egyptian authorities plan to extend the automated export system to 130 customs locations and integrate it with 32 government entities, including food safety and standards regulators, to ensure end‑to‑end compliance.
