At TransMEA 2025 in Cairo, Siemens Mobility presented its latest technology in high-speed trains with its Velaro product line, which illustrates Egypt’s position in leading a global transition to environmentally friendly rail transportation.

Siemens Mobility made a significant breakthrough in Egypt’s rail project overhaul with its participation in TransMEA 2025. Siemens rolled out its Velaro high-speed train designed to function in desert climate conditions with a top speed of 250kmh.

The event was attended by Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir, CEO of Siemens AG Roland Busch, and CEO of Siemens Mobility Michael Peter. They said that the project meets Egypt’s ambition to create one of the largest global high-speed rail networks.

The Velaro, designed to cater to Egypt’s climate conditions, offers seating for 489 passengers. It was launched along with the Desiro High Capacity (HC) regional train, which successfully undertook its first test run near the 6th of October Depot.

Desiro HC will run on the Green Line route, which spans 660km between Cairo, Sokhna, Alexandria, and Marsa Matrouh. The combination of these trains will represent progression in Egypt’s ‘Suez Canal on Rails’ project.
