Egypt inaugurates Al-Nasr Floating Bridge 2 to ease traffic bet. Port Said & Port Fouad
Egypt has inaugurated the “Al-Nasr Floating Bridge 2,” a new crossing linking Port Said and Port Fouad, in a ceremony attended by senior officials from the Suez Canal Authority and Port Said Governorate.
The opening was led by Suez Canal Authority Chairman Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie and Port Said Governor Major General Ibrahim Abu Limon, and included an inspection tour of the structure and a trial convoy of vehicles to test operational safety and traffic flow.
Located 170 metres from the existing floating bridge, the new structure is designed to ease congestion and improve mobility between the two cities, with a combined capacity of up to 25,000 vehicles per day across both bridges.
The bridge measures 428 metres in length and 15 metres in width, and is built from five steel pontoons that allow sections to open for the passage of vessels through the Suez Canal. It can accommodate trucks weighing up to 100 tonnes.
Officials said the project was designed by the Port Said Naval Shipyard and incorporates solar-powered lighting, reflecting efforts to integrate sustainability features into infrastructure development.
The project was completed with participation from Suez Canal Authority subsidiaries and local engineering firms under the supervision of Bureau Veritas, as part of a wider network of crossings aimed at improving connectivity across the canal cities.
