Egypt, Jordan strengthen digital ties with Coral Bridge Cable
Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and Jordan’s Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Al-Samirat, witnessed via videoconference the landing of the high-capacity “Coral Bridge” submarine cable in the city of Taba.
The cable is the first of its kind to directly connect Egypt and Jordan in more than 25 years, marking a pivotal step in advancing digital infrastructure in the Middle East and reinforcing both countries’ positions as regional data hubs.
The “Coral Bridge” is a direct, high-speed digital link equipped with a large number of optical fibers running through the Gulf of Aqaba. Spanning 15 kilometers, the cable is designed to meet the surging demand from artificial intelligence applications and data centers, enabling the aggregation and transfer of international data traffic at very high capacities.
The system provides seamless connectivity between Asia, Africa, and Europe, leveraging the strategic geographic locations of Egypt and Jordan alongside Telecom Egypt’s extensive infrastructure.
It also ensures service continuity by offering alternative routes and backup connections for major corporations and cloud service providers.
The project was implemented under a cooperation agreement between Telecom Egypt and Jordan’s Naitel, the telecommunications arm of Aqaba Digital City.
