Egypt launches first bachelor's programme in banking sciences
The new programme is the result of a joint effort by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the Ministry of Higher Education, the Supreme Council of Universities, and the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI). It will initially launch in select public university commerce faculties and be taught in English under a credit-hour system.
The curriculum includes modules on digital banking, financial inclusion, risk management, sustainable finance, and ESG governance. Students will also undergo practical training at Egyptian banks as part of the degree.
Announced at a launch event on Monday, the programme is designed to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in Egypt’s banking sector, especially amid ongoing digital and regulatory shifts.
CBE Governor Hassan Abdalla, Higher Education Minister Ayman Ashour, Supreme Council Secretary-General Mostafa Refaat, and EBI Executive Director Abdel-Aziz Nossier attended the launch, along with a host of university and banking sector representatives.
The Supreme Council of Universities approved the unified academic framework for the programme in May.
