Egypt isn’t just dusting off ancient wonders, it’s giving its airports a 21st-century glow-up. In a bold move to hit a jaw-dropping 30 million visitors a year by 2028, the land of pharaohs is making travel smarter and faster. Cue the all-new emergency e-Visa on arrival system. No more stressed embassy visits or last-minute paperwork disasters. Get your e-Visa with just a few clicks, a quick scan, and boom, you’re in!

On May 5, 2025, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly sat down with ministers to review how to roll out the digital permits. His message was clear: Egypt isn’t just attracting tourists, it’s rolling out an entire infrastructure makeover to keep them coming back.

From streamlined borders and upgraded airport terminals to a modernised e-Visa platform, the government’s Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030 is in full swing. The end goal? Double the tourist count and make the entry process so smooth it feels like sliding down the Nile.

Here’s where it gets interesting! Egypt’s emergency electronic visa will now be available on arrival, yes, right at the airport. If you didn’t manage to sort your visa in advance, no worries. Step up to an automated kiosk, use the online platform, or open the shiny new mobile app, and your e-Visa appears faster than you can say Koshary.

This feature first lands at Cairo International Airport before flying its way into seven more hubs and eventually all 14 international airports.

And yes, it covers the same 78 countries as the existing e-Visa system. So travellers from the US, UK, EU, GCC nations, Australia, Japan, and South Korea, you’re all in luck.
