The company signed a land lease agreement for 16.2 hectares with the General Authority for Dry Ports. The deal was formalized during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Egypt.

One plant will manufacture trams, monorail trains, and high-speed rail units. The second will focus on signaling systems and related components. Around 1,200 local jobs are expected to be created.

Alstom strengthens its presence in Egypt’s rail market

In 2022, Alstom signed a contract to build Cairo Metro Line 6, including 294 driverless Metropolis trains and maintenance services.

The company is also supplying 55 trains for the capital’s Metro Line 1, further enhancing Cairo’s transport network. In addition, Alstom is building a monorail system with 70 Innovia 300 trains, manufactured in the UK.

Alstom projects support Egypt’s transport development

With these new investments, Alstom is deepening localization and supporting Egypt’s push for sustainable mobility. The facilities will accelerate technology transfer and reduce dependency on imports.

The project creates employment and involves local suppliers in the value chain. Construction will begin once all administrative procedures and permits are finalized.

Egyptian authorities emphasize the importance of global partnerships in transport modernization. Domestic production enhances infrastructure growth and strengthens the national economy.

Thus, Alstom’s initiatives play a key role in shaping Egypt’s modern transport system and advancing international cooperation in the sector.
