Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Tuesday, that Sunday, May 5, will be an official holiday for Labor Day, instead of Wednesday, May 1.

The Labor Day and Sham al-Nessim holidays coincide with the date of Resurrection Day in Egypt, where Christians celebrate Easter on Sunday, May 5, followed by the Sham el-Nessim holiday on Monday, May 6.

This means that leave for Christian workers is five days, starting from Thursday, May 2 until Monday, May 6.

Madbouly also announced that Monday, May 6, is an official holiday, on the occasion of Sham al-Nessim.

The decision stipulated that the two days of leave should be paid for workers in ministries, government departments, public bodies, local administration units, public sector companies, public business sector companies, and the private sector.
