CAPMAS : 5.44% Decrease in Manufacturing and extractive index during January 2024

Central Agency for public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a press release of primary data of manufacturing and extractive industries of production index of  January 2024.


CAPMAS has updated the index methodology using the base year 2012/2013 and at the level of main indices of industrial activity according to Industrial Activity Manual (ISIC Rev.4) and by using the monthly index (for producer prices based on 2012/2013) That's since January 2020.


Manufacturing and extractive industries index (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) reached 92.85 during January 2024 (primary) compared to 98.20 during December 2023 (final) decrease by 5.45%.


Economic Activities that witness an increase are as followed: The Manufacture of beverages; reached 225.74during  January 2024, compared to December 2023, reaching 182.81, an increase by 23.48% due to market needs.


The Manufacture of chemicals and chemicalproducts; reached 78.76 during  January 2024, compared to December 2023, reaching 74.89, an increase by 5.17% due to market needs.


A decrease in the level of the following economic activities: Manufacture of electrical equipment; reached 106.39 during January 2024, compared to December 2023, reaching127.56 adecrease by 16.60%, due to the lack of raw materials necessary for the product.


Manufacture of basic metals; reached 52.48 during January 2024, compared to December 2023, reaching 60.29 adecrease by 12.95%, due to market needs.
