DAI Infrastruktur GmbH (DAI) of Frankfurt, Germany, has entered into a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens Energy to jointly undertake the Ra green ammonia project in East Port Said, Egypt.

The Ra project, with an annual production capacity of 2 million tonnes of green ammonia, is anticipated to generate 1.65 million tonnes based solely on renewable energy sources, and production is scheduled to commence in 2028.

DAI Infrastruktur is dedicated to establishing East Port Said as a prominent green ammonia hub in the East Mediterranean. The strategic location of the plant, offering convenient access to the sea, is poised to support the maritime industry by facilitating vessel bunkering and enabling the transportation of green ammonia to European off-takers.

Ioannis Papassavvas from DAI emphasized the intention to sell the majority of the produced green ammonia to German and European off-takers, with a primary focus on the maritime sector as a sustainable fuel. The plant’s proximity to the Suez Canal and its location within the East Port Said harbor ensure bunkering services for vessels powered by green ammonia.
