The findings come after ten days of growing public concern, fuelled by social media reports alleging widespread damage to vehicle fuel pumps caused by faulty gasoline.

According to the ministry, citizens who submitted complaints between 4 and 10 May via the 16528 hotline or the government complaints portal may be eligible for reimbursement for fuel pump replacement—provided they present proof of vehicle ownership and a replacement invoice.

This follows the detection of non-compliant fuel samples at certain gas stations and reflects the ministry’s acknowledgement of the difficulty in isolating the technical causes of fuel pump failures, whether due to gasoline quality, vehicle condition, or the pumps' operational lifespan.

Between 4 and 9 May, 807 fuel samples were analyzed in response to 870 complaints, mostly from Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubia.

Five samples were found to be non-compliant with Egyptian specifications: two in Greater Cairo, one in the Alexandria region, and two in Upper Egypt.

In response, the ministry has implemented enhanced quality control measures for locally produced and imported fuel, including multi-laboratory testing and oversight by independent entities across the supply chain.

A previous statement issued on 6 May indicated that all tested samples were compliant.

It added that further sulfur content tests began on that date and would be released once they were completed.
