Egyptian national airline, EGYPTAIR, part of the Star Alliance network, announced new direct routes for the carrier in 2023 including Cairo to Manchester in July, which operates five times weekly on a B737-800NG aircraft and offers a business class product.

EGYPTAIR also launched routes between Cairo and Delhi which started in August, operating four-times-per-week on A320 aircraft.

The route expansion comes as the airline aims to expand connections from its main hub in Africa to Europe and Asia as part of an ambitious plan to connect Egypt with many countries around the world. In addition to the above new routes, EGYPTAIR has also recently added a Delhi route in India and Dhaka in Bangladesh and New Jersey in North America and Narita in Japan to its network.

Engineer Yehia Zakaria, Chairman and CEO of EGYPTAIR Holding Company, says: “At EgyptAir we have announced the ambitious plans of the national carrier to enhance its network in Asia. The company aims to introduce two new routes in Cairo/Jakarta, Indonesia, Cairo/Shanghai and China, in the near future. EGYPTAIR is committed to a long-term strategy focused on attracting a larger customer base worldwide. This strategy aims to provide travellers with a diverse range of travel options, both through the airline’s extensive network of destinations and the global Star Alliance network.”

Tourism in Egypt has bounced back in 2023 and EGYPTAIR will be targeting 18 million tourists for 2024 and 20 million in 2025. To reach this number of tourists, there is a need of new airline routes to help this growth and this year, EGYPTAIR has already introduced eight new routes, with one more to come in November for Shanghai.
