Telecom Egypt and Hungary's 4iG Group recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of a submarine communications cable that would connect Egypt and Albania. Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, stated that the collaboration forms part of a broader strategy to bolster business continuity and promote future expansions in the Eastern European region. Talaat pointed out that Egypt, due to its advantageous geographical position, plays a crucial role in transferring international data between the East and the West, with over 90% of data volume going through its territory. The upcoming submarine cable will provide an additional route linking Egypt and Europe, making a vital connection with key points within the European Union. As of now, Egypt already possesses 14 international submarine cables, with plans to establish five more through international collaborations. The Hungarian Ambassador emphasized the strong strategic cooperation between Hungary and Egypt, particularly in the fields of communications and information technology. The 4iG Group also sees this agreement as a significant step in their entry into the international market for communication infrastructure services, aiming to secure a sizeable share of the expanding data market between Europe and Asia, as well as Eastern and Southern Africa.
