A source from Egypt's Ministry of Electricity has confirmed that the National Electricity Control Centers will proceed indefinitely with the load shedding system. This comes as per the Cabinet's instructions. There is currently no determined date for the cessation of these power outages. Production of electricity is dependent on the quantities of gas available, with the Ministry owning power stations ensuring the generation of electricity that can cater to all needs. On a similar note, the Cabinet, in July, had announced the initiation of a policy aimed at load reduction. The policy was implemented with power outage schedules released for all parts of the country. Each electricity distribution company has posted the load reduction schedules at their customer service headquarters and on their official company pages. The outage schedules extensively detail the dates and locations of the power outages. The government has further announced measures to rationalise electricity consumption including a system that enables government employees to work from home every Sunday of the week throughout August. These regulations apply to ministries and government departments possessing a high technological infrastructure. Electricity production companies observed a significant increase in electricity consumption in August when compared to the preceding year. Even though the government has made decisions aimed to rationalise power usage, the impact on reducing consumption volume has been limited. Residential use remains the largest source of consumption, accounting for approximately 50% of the nation's total electricity consumption.
