Egypt, Brazil discuss boosting ties in different fields

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry of Egypt held a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, on Friday during the high-level meetings at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The meeting focused on the mutual relationship between Egypt and Brazil as they look ahead to celebrate 100 years of established diplomatic ties in 2024. This was emphasized by the Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Abu Zeid. Both ministers expressed a desire to enhance collaborations across multiple sectors, primarily on economic and trade matters, in order to strengthen their bilateral relations. They also examined the potential for increased cooperation within the BRICS group, whilst supporting each other's international forum nominations. Key regional and international issues were also on the conversation table, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the Russian-Ukrainian war, the Palestinian cause, and the state of affairs in Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Syria.
