Tecnimont, an Integrated E&C Solutions subsidiary of MAIRE, a global leader for highly complex plants for the natural resources transformation industry, has partnered with Egypt-based engineering, procurement and construction contractor, Orascom Construction, for a Lump Sum Turn-Key Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contract (EPC) for a Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate plant by KIMA, the Egyptian Chemical Industries Company.

Expected to be operation-ready in the first half of 2026, the $300 million (AED1.1 billion) plant is designed to produce 600 tonnes per day of Nitric Acid, which will be fully transformed into 800 tonnes per day of fertilizer-grade, granulated, Ammonium Nitrate to be sold to local farmers, increasing the yields of their crops, as well as exported to international markets.

The consortium’s $220 million (AED808 million) work contract equates about 70% of the total project value, the scope of which sees Tecnimont carrying out engineering work, in addition to the supplying of all materials and equipment, with Orascom handling construction activities. The finalisation of the contract is subject to successful execution of the financing package.

This project follows KIMA’s ammonia and urea large plant built by Tecnimont and Orascom Construction and successfully started up in 2020 in the same industrial complex, located in the Aswan Governorship, in Upper Egypt.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, commented: “We are really honoured to keep on supporting a prominent player such as KIMA in the development of the Egypt’s fertiliser value chain. With this award we further consolidate a long-lasting, fruitful relation and strengthen our industrial footprint in North Africa, thanks to our strong capability in executing EPC projects.”
