The Egyptian government will not raise electricity prices for households for six months ending June 30th, Shorouk News reported on January 24th, citing a decision by the Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker published in the Egyptian Gazette.

Last year, Egypt started the full implementation of a national plan to rationalize electricity consumption, a move that aims to save gas that is pumped into power stations in an effort to boost its export.

The decisions included the complete shutdown of the electrical current after the end of official working hours, except for service sectors, as well as not lighting any government building's facade.
