Laser hallmarking on gold to be applied in Q1-23

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade agreed with the Armed Forces to deploy the software system for laser hallmarking on gold, which will take place during the first quarter of 2023.

Ahmed Suleiman, Chairman of the Stamping and Scales Authority, highlighted that they are teaming up with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to ensure uninterrupted service, and to link that with the armed forces.

This is needed to secure a 24-hour connection with the main line, in addition to the exchange method. If the service is interrupted from the main link system, the transition process will ensure the continuity of service provision.

Suleiman noted that the system was internally secured and coded through a "QR". The sale certificate with the “QR” can be read from the phone to verify the system, while the mobile app can be downloaded.
