Egypt is being threatened through its Nile

Egypt is occupied with its presidential elections and managing the challenges of day to day life, while those seeking freedom continue to struggle to repel attempts to hijack the revolution.

Meanwhile, plans are being drawn up in neighboring countries to snatch away “Egypt’s historical rights” over the waters of the Nile.

Ethiopia has been demanding a bigger share of the waters which spring from its land for years. And it has been using its Washington connection to put pressure on Egypt.

But it had not dared to make a move for two reasons: the first is that the balance of power is not in its favor when it comes to any conflict with Egypt.

The second is that the US needs to appease Egypt in any way possible in order to protect Cairo’s peace treaty with Israel, which was imposed on the Egyptian people.

However, this has not prevented Ethiopia from initiating preparations to construct a huge dam, which will cost about US$5 billion, with possible funding from China.
The US, the old expert in blackmail, is watching. It knows very well that Egypt was born from the womb of the Nile and that it cannot survive without it.

Its academic experts have published thousands of books and articles on the subject. The same is true of their European colleagues, who deliver theories and sermons on the same subject.

And now we find Burundi, where the White Nile passes, joining the party. It has signed a joint draft law with the countries of the Nile basin to pressure Egypt, using international law, to exchange the current treaty with another, which would put Egypt at its neighbors’ mercy.

Revolutionaries of Egypt have to realize what is happening. Today, Egypt is under threat. Water is the basis of its life. It provides food, work, and growth. And it would not be strange that Israel is primed as always to interfere in the affairs of the Nile basin and to support whichever country in their attempts to constrain Egypt.
