Egypt, Italy and Libya will together discuss the reconstruction of Libya during a visit by the Italian foreign minister to Cairo later this week, according to the Egyptian ambassador to Italy, Muhammad Farid Muni.

Italian foreign minister Giulio Terzi on Thursday will fly to Cairo on his first official visit to Egypt since becoming Italy's top diplomat in November.

"The Egyptian workers in Libya have much experience, while the Italians have the opportunity and experience of investing in the country," Muni said Tuesday in an interview with Adnkronos International.

"With Libya's okay, this is how the idea for cooperation between Egypt and Italy came about," he said.

Italy was Libya's largest trade allies before the civil war that led to the toppling and death of ex-leader Muammar Gaddafi. Rome is also one of Egypt's biggest business partners.
