Egypt and Sudan Agree on Water Resources Development Project in Rwanda

Joint Technical Commission for Nile water concluded the second meeting sessions of the fifty-first session, which was held in Cairo during the period from December 26-30, in the presence of members of the technical commission from both Egyptian and Sudanese sides.

Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hisham Gandil said, in a statement, that they discussed the management of water resources in both countries, top of which the work of monitoring water levels, follow operating rules for reservoirs, ways to develop the body at both human and institutional levels, and participate in international conferences and forums related to management of transboundary waters, as well as to show and support the Egyptian – Sudanese position in international forums.

Gandil pointed to the approval of the Commission on Water Resources Development Project in Rwanda, within the framework of consultation and prior notification, which adopted by the World Bank in funding projects, to make sure not to damage countries shared in the River Nile.

The meeting developed mechanisms to address the problem of grass in the waterways, and benefit from the expertise and competencies in both countries.

Gandil stressed the keenness of the Authority to document the history of cooperation between the two countries through a major celebration that will be organized on the occasion of Golden Jubilee of the Commission.
