Egypt Interested in Cuban Teaching Method

Diplomatic sources announced on Sunday that the Hispanic Association of Egypt is interested in the Cuban teaching method “Yes, I Can”, and suggested translating it into Arabic to help reduce illiteracy in Egypt.

The program, created by Prof. Leonela Relys, was recognized by UNESCO in 2006 for its effectiveness, and members of the association, which is made up of Spanish teachers and other academics from Egyptian universities said they are willing to work with Cuban experts to adjust the program to their needs.alt

During a conference by Cuba’s ambassador to Cairo, Otto Vaillant, professors Nagwa Mehrez and Ali Menufi said that with the Yes, I Can method, an estimated 40 percent of illiteracy could be eliminated in Egypt.

The conference by Vaillant, titled “Cuba, Challenges and Opportunities” also stressed that the teaching method has been successfully implemented in more than 15 countries and has been praised by different institutions and governments.
