ABB to automate generation at Egyptian hydropower plants

ABB has secured an order worth over $20m from the Hydro Plants Generation Company to upgrade the automation of the Aswan hydropower plants in Egypt.

The company will provide plant automation and control solutions for the Aswan hydropower complex which includes three hydropower plants with a capacity of more than 2,600MW.

ABB will deliver a new integrated plant automation solution including the latest Symphony Plus technology, instrumentation, transformer and generator protection systems, turbine governor systems and electro-hydraulic equipment at one of the plants.

It will upgrade selected control and excitation systems, automatic voltage regulators, turbine governor systems and electro-hydraulic equipment.

The company will also upgrade the electrical protection systems for a 132kV substation which connects the power generated at the plant to the transmission grid.
