As a ceasefire takes hold in Gaza and the region turns toward recovery, Egyptian contracting and building materials companies are positioning themselves to play a central role in what could become one of the largest reconstruction efforts in modern history.

Here’s what to know about Egypt’s emerging role, the scale of the challenge, and the international competition ahead:

1️⃣ Egyptian firms ready to rebuild
Several major Egyptian construction and materials companies have announced their readiness to participate in Gaza’s rebuilding process. Executives told Al-Shorouk that Egypt’s domestic market currently holds a surplus of construction materials and capacity, making it well prepared to supply large-scale projects quickly and cost-effectively.

2️⃣ Peace summit sets the stage
The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, co-chaired by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, convened world leaders to support stability in the Middle East and coordinate reconstruction in Gaza. The summit follows Egypt’s key diplomatic role in mediating the ceasefire agreement.

3️⃣ Massive destruction across Gaza
According to United Nations data, about 83 percent of buildings in Gaza City have been damaged during the two-year conflict, with 17,734 structures completely destroyed. Infrastructure networks—water, power, sanitation, and roads—will require full reconstruction, making this a decade-long effort.

4️⃣ Reconstruction cost could hit $50 billion
International experts estimate that rebuilding the Gaza Strip could cost up to $50 billion and take as long as ten years. Egypt’s proximity and experience in rapid infrastructure delivery position it as a natural logistical hub for materials, labor, and engineering coordination.

5️⃣ Global competition for contracts begins
Companies from Turkey, the United States, Qatar, the UAE, Britain, and Egypt have already expressed interest in reconstruction contracts. The Times reports that Turkish and American firms are among the first to submit proposals—signaling intense competition for financing and project leadership.

6️⃣ Egypt’s advantage: capacity and logistics
Egypt’s construction sector is operating below capacity following a slowdown in domestic megaprojects, freeing up both manpower and materials. With direct land routes to Gaza and major ports on the Mediterranean, Egypt could become the primary staging ground for reconstruction supplies and equipment.

7️⃣ Strategic and economic stakes for Cairo
Beyond contracts, Egypt’s participation carries geopolitical weight. Leading Gaza’s reconstruction would enhance its diplomatic influence, generate billions in cross-border trade, and strengthen Cairo’s image as a regional stabilizer and development partner in post-conflict recovery.

Bottom line:
As peace efforts advance, Gaza’s reconstruction is emerging as both a humanitarian necessity and a strategic economic opportunity. For Egypt, it represents a chance to turn diplomatic capital into tangible development leadership—rebuilding not just a neighbor, but regional trust and stability.
