Minister Mohamed Kamel participates in the AU International Conference

Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel went to Addis Ababa to participate in the AU International Aid & Pledging Conference on the Horn of Africa & Somalia.
Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr is to leave Cairo, on August 24th 2011, heading to Addis Ababa to participate in the AU International Aid and Pledging Conference on the Horn of Africa and Somalia, scheduled to be held next Thursday August 25th 2011.

The Official Spokeswoman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Menha Bakhoum stated that Minister Mohamed Amr affirmed that Egypt’s keenness to participate in such conference comes within the continuation of the intensive Egyptian efforts to alleviate impacts of the severe drought in the Horn of Africa, especially Somalia with the famine that resulted in deteriorating humanitarian situations affecting 12 million persons. The Spokeswoman added that Egypt had participated in the (FAO) emergency meetings and the OIC emergency Ministerial Meeting organized to resolve such crisis.

The Spokeswoman indicated, as well that the Foreign Minister would address Egypt’s vision on the ways and the means of resolving the Horn of Africa crisis, based on the need to concentrate, as well on long-term solutions and most sustainable projects in parallel with the relief aids, as such solutions and projects are not less important than other humanitarian assistance at the present time. The Spokeswoman referred to Egypt’s interest in participating in the international efforts aiming at achieving security and stability all over Somalia and its territorial integrity further to exerting the efforts of achieving development in Somalia and raising the Somalis standard of living.
