Egypt to bid for hosting 2036 Olympics
Egyptian president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi gave his approval to Egypt’s sports authorities to bid to be the host of the 2036 Olympic Games.
The Egyptian President met the President of International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach and highlighted Egypt’s efforts in developing the country’s sports infrastructure, especially with the establishment of the Egyptian City for Olympic Games in the New Administrative Capital.
Al-Sisi also stated that Egypt is working on improving airports, transportation and other services. Bach praised Egypt’s contribution to various sports and how it hosted the 2021 World Handball Championship amid all the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also praised the establishment of the Olympic City, which he expects to become of crucial importance in the MENA region.
The next summer Olympics 2024 will be in Paris, then 2028 will be in Los Angeles and 2032 in Brisbane, Australia. For the 2036, apart from Egypt, it is reported that Germany, Qatar, Mexico, Russia, India and Turkey will also bid.
The winning bid is expected to be announced between 2025 and 2029. If Egypt wins, it will be the first Arab and African country to host summer Olympics.
