InterContinental Hotels & Resorts celebrated the work that its hotels around the world are doing to sustain and enhance their local destinations. In partnership with National Geographic's Center for Sustainable Destinations, InterContinental hotels from around the world took part in activities that ensure their location remains an appealing place to visit for future generations during the Responsible Business Week from October 3rd to October 9th.

To celebrate Responsible Business Day, InterContinental Cairo Citystars organized several events to support the local community and preserve the natural heritage including:

-Around 100 staff members participated in a cleanup day for Wadi Degla national protectorate. Wadi Degla is one of the most beautiful protected areas in Egypt; it was announced as a protected area in 1999. Wadi Degla receives many visitors during the weekend, the InterContinental Citystars employees spent several hours collecting litter from the valley leaving the place clean for visitors to enjoy.

To support the Hope Village Society shelter and Hoda orphanage, the staff donated money that was used to buy new children outfits, food supplies, candy, books and toys. The hotel also donated sheets and towels that were no longer in use by hotel guests but still in a very good condition. A team from the hotel enjoyed delivering supplies to both the HVS and Hoda orphanage but most of all they enjoyed spending time with the children.

Simon W. Stamper, area general manager, InterContinental Cairo Citystars said: "Responsible Business activities have ranged from cleaning local sites to supporting local community, all demonstrating InterContinental Hotels & Resorts' commitment to protecting the world around us."
