International Workshop on Acoustics and Vibration in Egypt - IWAVE 2011, the Eighth Swedish-Egyptian Workshop in Sound and Vibration Research.

The Acoustical Society of Egypt announces its annual workshop on Research and Education in Acoustics and Vibration. The workshop is intended to promote Sound and Vibration research and education in Egypt through encouraging cooperation among Egyptian scientists, and with scientists around the globe. The workshop is co-sponsored by the European Commission through the TEMPUS and FP7 programmes as well as the Science & Technology Development Fund (STDF) in Egypt. This year, there will be a special session for junior researchers (M.Sc. and Ph.D. students) conducting research in sound and vibration. For the first time, there will be awards for the best presentations of the young researchers. IWAVE 2011 is also accompanied by advanced courses in wave propagation and building acoustics.

Key Dates:
October 15, submission of presentation titles/abstracts
October 19-20, Advanced topics in linear wave propagation in solids and structures course
October 22, IWAVE
October 23, IWAVE Juniors
October 26-27, Building Acoustics course

Workshop Location:
Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo, EGYPT.

Objectives:
Providing a meeting place for regional researchers in different fields related to acoustics and vibrations with applications of local importance.
Introducing the local community to the latest developments in the research fields by inviting several international speakers.
Encouraging young researchers to present their work to the academic and industrial communities. There will be two awards of 1000 EGP and 500 EGP for the best two presentations in IWAVE Juniors.
Inviting group researchers, industries, and stakeholders in the MEDA Countries interested in aircraft external noise to join and actively participate in the European Network of Excellence X-Noise.

Keynote Speakers:
Planning with respect to wind turbine noise: Some Swedish experiences. Prof. Sten Ljunggren, The Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.
The design of engine foundations to reduce energy transfer from engine to main structure. Prof. Anders Nilsson, The Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.

Courses:
“Advanced topics in linear wave propagation in solids and structures” Instructed by Prof. Sergey Sorokin, Aalborg University, Denmark.
