An Egyptian payment processing company, Mediterranean Smart Cards Company (MSCC), has been named as the 'Platinum sponsor' of the 2011 African Banker Awards by the award organisers, African Banker Magazine.

In a statement made available to PANA here Monday, the organisers said the company currently serves more than 85 domestic and international banks within Egypt, and has expanded throughout Africa to many international locations such as Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cape Verde, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Nigeria, Rwanda and Togo, among others.

Now in its 5th edition, the African Banker Awards is organised annually during the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings to honour the achievements of African financial institutions and individuals who have contributed significantly to the reform, modernisation and expansion of the continent’s banking and financial system.

African Banker Magazine Publisher Omar Ben Yedder was quoted as saying: “We’re delighted to have MSCC on board as our Platinum sponsor. They have shown through their extensive investment and business transactions in Africa that they understand how the region operates as a market and their services are playing an important role in building Africa’s banking infrastructure.''

The awards this year will take place at the Willard Intercontinental, Washington DC, 23 September.

Previous winners include Ecobank, Equity Bank, Renaissance Capital, Standard Bank and many financial institutions leading the way in African Banking.
