Egypt approved to export farmed fish products to EU for first time

Egypt has been included, for the first time, on the list of countries authorized to export aquaculture products to the European Union (EU).

The approval follows Egypt’s fulfillment of all technical requirements, including the establishment of a comprehensive monitoring system for veterinary drug residues, ensuring full compliance with relevant EU standards.

The decision covers the export of finfish and related products, as well as crustaceans, in a move expected to boost the competitiveness of Egypt’s aquaculture sector, one of the country’s promising economic fields.

Officials said the achievement reflects effective coordination among national authorities, particularly the NFSA, in cooperation with international partners.

Egypt submitted a comprehensive package of technical documentation demonstrating compliance with EU-approved quality control and regulatory systems.

The decision is expected to be formally adopted in the third quarter of 2026 and will enter into force 20 days after official approval.

In parallel, the authority is continuing technical and regulatory preparations in Egypt, including the inspection and accreditation of facilities, implementation of traceability systems, and strengthening of laboratory testing frameworks.

Preparations are also underway for exporting composite food products—those containing multiple ingredients, including dairy or animal-origin components—pending the adoption of relevant amendments later this year.
