Egypt’s 9 PM shop curfew has saved up to LE80 million in 2 days
An informed Egyptian government source has revealed that the state’s measures to close shops at nine pm has contributed to daily fuel savings estimated at LE33-40 million.
This translates to total savings of between LE 66 and LE 80 million in just the first two days, the source said, with the potential to reach approximately LE 120 million when calculated based on global energy prices.
The source explained that the total expected savings in fuel consumption during April could range between LE 990 million and LE 1.2 billion, according to local prices, and could reach approximately LE 1.8 billion if calculated based on actual costs or global prices.
This reflects the doubly positive economic and environmental impact of the conservation measures, he said.
