Egypt forms committee of scientists to drive research-led industrial development

The committee will develop initiatives and work with the private sector and Egypt’s Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) to strengthen the local industrial sector.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the committee will connect university and research centre findings with industrial applications, including expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies.

The IMC provides technical support, development guidance, and training to improve quality and productivity in Egypt’s industrial and manufacturing sectors.

The committee is also part of a new phase for the IMC, aimed at speeding up procedures, simplifying organizational processes, and delivering practical results, Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said during a meeting on the IMC’s plans. Hashem has recently replaced Kamel Al-Wazir as minister of industry in the most recent cabinet reshuffle, following the ministry’s separation from the transport portfolio.
