Industry min., Nissan delegation discuss plans to expand in Egyptian market, export to Africa

Minister of Industry Khaled Hashim met on Monday, February 16, 2026, with officials from Nissan company to discuss the company’s plans to expand in the Egyptian market and increase exports to African markets, in line with the state’s strategy to localize automobile manufacturing and strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional hub for production and export.


The meeting was attended by a delegation led by Managing Director of Nissan Africa Mohamed Abdel-Samad alongside Advisor to the Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Jehan Saleh, Assistant Minister for Industry Research and Development Laila Shehata, Head of the Industrial Affairs Sector Sherif el Rashidy and Head of the Automotive Unit Alaa Salah.


During the meeting, Nissan’s delegation presented plans to increase production capacity and train the workforce in collaboration with the Productivity and Vocational Training Department under the ministry of Industry, as well as with specialized training institutions.


They also outlined the company’s strategy to boost exports to African markets, noting that approximately 25,000 vehicles were exported over the past three years, with current production rising to 30,000 passenger cars in the current fiscal year, positioning Nissan at the forefront of the domestic market.


Hashim emphasized that the Egyptian government places high importance on the automotive sector, which enjoys significant competitive advantages, enabling Egypt to become a regional hub for automotive manufacturing in Africa and the Middle East.


He highlighted Egypt’s strategic geographic location, extensive free trade agreements, strong infrastructure and access to international markets as key factors supporting this vision.


Meanwhile, Abdel-Samad asserted Nissan’s commitment to expanding production in Egypt and increasing exports to the African continent.


He invited Hashim to visit Nissan’s factory soon to inaugurate a new production line, expected to produce approximately 10,000 additional vehicles in its first year, with a local content rate exceeding 50%.
