Egypt's core inflation drops to 11.2% in January 2026

On a monthly basis, inflation in urban areas rose to 1.2 percent in January, compared to just 0.2 percent in December.

 The annual rate of core inflation in Egypt decreased to 11.2 percent in January 2026, down from 11.8 percent in December 2025, as reported by the Central Bank of Egypt.


In terms of monthly changes, the core inflation rate stood at 1.2 percent in January, compared to 1.7 percent in January 2025 and 0.2 percent in December 2025. The core inflation rate, which excludes administratively controlled prices like fuel and electricity, as well as volatile items such as fruits and vegetables, provides a clearer picture of underlying inflation trends.


Meanwhile, the overall annual inflation rate in urban areas slowed to 11.9 percent in January, down from 12.3 percent in December, according to official data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
