Egypt’s 2026 Energy Strategy Gains Pace with Eni Talks, LNG Expansion
Egypt’s 2026 energy strategy is gaining fresh momentum following new discussions between Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi and Italy’s Eni to double crude production and advance a pipeline connection bringing Cyprus’ Cronos gas to Egyptian infrastructure. The proposed tie-in would route offshore Cypriot gas to Egypt’s liquefaction facilities, strengthening regional integration while expanding feedstock for LNG exports to Europe and global markets.
Following recent gas supply constraints, Egypt is accelerating exploration, expanding LNG capacity, strengthening infrastructure and scaling renewables to restore energy surpluses and reinforce its role as an Eastern Mediterranean energy anchor. Backed by new drilling, field optimization and grid expansion, the country’s 2026 agenda creates investor opportunities across upstream production, downstream refining and petrochemicals, long-term LNG exports and renewable power – positioning Egypt as a reliable partner for regional energy security and commercial growth.
Egypt aims to drill 101 wells in 2026 – including 67 in the Western Desert, nine in the Gulf of Suez, 14 offshore in the Mediterranean and six in the Nile Delta – to rebuild reserves and stabilize domestic supply. Minister Badawi has emphasized revitalizing mature fields, accelerating exploration and maintaining an investment-friendly environment to attract global partners.
