Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) has started production from the Al-Wasl-4 development well at the North Safa Field, located on the field’s offshore platform, with initial output of 2,250 barrels of crude oil per day and approximately 1.3 million cubic feet of gas per day. This has lifted the company’s total crude oil production to around 65,000 barrels per day.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Petroleum said the achievement reflects GUPCO’s strategy to maximize returns from its assets through an integrated program that includes drilling exploratory and development wells, re-evaluating geological structures, and capitalizing on remaining opportunities in mature fields. The Al-Wasl-4 well is among the most prominent projects in the company’s 2026 development plan, based on the positive results delivered by technical and geological studies.

The North Safa Field is considered one of the most significant recent discoveries in the Gulf of Suez region. Commercial production began in 2024, following a development project implemented by Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company that included the construction of a new offshore production platform and the connection of production pipelines, in full compliance with the highest standards of occupational safety, health, and environmental protection.

In parallel, the company is implementing an integrated reservoir pressure maintenance program through water injection in three wells, aimed at maximizing production rates and achieving optimal efficiency, while preparing for the second phase of field development.
